DOGE/GSA to Close Seven RRB Regional Offices
The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) recently posted lists that identify buildings and properties that are set to be sold and disposed. There are around 440 properties on this list, 18 of which hold RRB field offices.
In addition, we are also aware that GSA may be considering selling off federal buildings where RRB offices are located in Atlanta, Boston, Detroit, and New York. The Trump Administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has requested multiple listings for closings and disposal which have been changed and/or cancelled due to constituency outrage and public protests.
The GSA has not ruled on a final number of closings, due to the many discrepancies found in the DOGE requests, but the following seven (7) RRB offices are currently scheduled for closing. These offices are part of the private properties deemed to be “not core to government operations”. That does not fit the description of any RRB offices and comes at the direction of the DOGE, led by amateur political appointees with no sense of consequences that will further complicate understaffing problems due to inadequate fiscal year appropriations.

NARVRE is working with the RRB and they will keep us informed of any changes. We are also aligned with rail labor and other retiree advocates. We are united with a broad coalition to educate all congressional offices on the fact that the funds used for to support the RRB is from employee/employer contributions and not federal tax dollars. The actions of DOGE threaten our railroad retirement system and beneficiary access to the RRB. All constituents will need to deliver that message to their elected members of the House & Senate.
