Meet NARVRE’S New National President
We are proud to announce our newly elected National President, George Boatwright. Mr. Boatwright began his 32-year railroad career in Jacksonville, Florida, on the Seaboard Coast Line railroad in 1977. Eight years later, he was hired by Amtrak for Auto Train Service as a Locomotive Engineer. During this time, he served on the safety committee and as a Vice Local Chairman of the BLE&T Southeast Regional Meeting in Orlando, Florida.
In 2009 Mr. Boatwright retired from Amtrak, and in 2010 he relocated to Elkton, Maryland. In Maryland, he pursued a passion project and opened a successful retail model train business. He also joined the Rotary Club and served as Secretary for two years, where he attended district leadership conferences and regional conventions. On top of his obligations with the Rotary Club, he also served on the executive committee of Northeast Maryland’s Chamber of Commerce.
During 2014-to-2018, Mr. Boatwright returned to Florida as a receiving manager for two retail businesses and as an Engineer/Conductor for the Orange Blossom Cannonball tourist train.
In 2018 Mr. Boatwright officially joined NARVRE Unit 070 Daytona Beach and has served as Legislative Representative since May 2019. In 2019 he also co-chaired the NARVRE Florida State Association (FSA) conference in Daytona Beach, Florida.
In January of 2021, Mr. Boatwright joined Unit 066 WILDWOOD and was quickly appointed Vice President of the Unit. By March 2021, NARVRE was ready for Facebook and knew Mr. Boatwright was the man for the job, and we appointed him as our Social Media Committee Instructor and mentor for our new Facebook groups.
Now just a few months later, Mr. George Boatwright serves as our National President. It is obvious that he has respect and love for the railroad, and we look forward to his leadership. Beginning in July, you will see regular columns written by him in the newsletters expressing his goals and aspirations for the NARVRE organization in the coming years. He will work alongside newly elected National Vice-President Ron Hylla, returning National Secretary/Treasurer Phil Steward, and the National Legislative Director Gary Faley.
Mr. Boatwright asks, “To please keep us all in your thoughts and prayers as along with other members of the Governing Board that we work United together to advance the principles and ideals of NARVRE.”.
