BIO
In 1965, Philip Steward began his career with the Frisco Railway as station agent/clerk telegrapher. After years of diligent hard work, he was later promoted to Recruiting Officer in 1972. Steward held various management positions during the next 35 years of rail road service across the Mid-south and Midwest including Assistant Personnel Manager, Assistant Trainmaster, General Yardmaster, Terminal Trainmaster, Division Manager Safety and Rules, Assistant Division Superintendent Administration, and Division Trainmaster.
Steward received the Burlington Northern Chairmen’s Circle Award in 1989 and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe James J. Hill –Cyrus K. Holliday Founders Award in 1998.
He retired from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway in 2007 and shortly after founded American Cleaners in 2007.
Steward’s association with NARVRE began in 2013 as a member of the Memphis unit 18 and was subsequently elected as local Legislative Representative. He was later appointed Assistant Area 1 Director in 2014. Later, in 2016, he was elected the 22nd National Secretary Treasurer of NARVRE.
Steward is proud to have assisted in developing new units in Jasper and Mobile, Alabama in 2015. With the help of local retirees and contacts in Mississippi and Alabama, Steward is excited to continue sharing the value and importance of NARVRE and becoming a member.
Philip and his wife Shirley moved to Olive Branch, Mississippi in 2003. They have a daughter, Paige, whom has graduated from the University of Memphis, married a railroader. They have two children, Dylan and Rylee. In addition Philip and Shirley have a son, Zach, who recently graduated from the University of Memphis.
Philip has a grown son Philip Steward ll that works for a major trucking company and lives in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area with his wife Dianne and their son Isaiah whom acts, models, sings, and produces videos.
