Stop Cuts to Railroad Workers’ Benefits by Supporting the Railroad Employee Equity and Fairness (REEF) Act
From Desk of National Legislative Director Gary Faley
NARVRE Members, we need to step up and help our fellow railway workers. Please make the call.
With the end of the national emergency related to COVID-19, the budget sequestration cuts will be reimposed on Railroad Unemployment and Sickness Benefits (RUI) on May 10th, 2023. This will trigger cuts to railroaders’ checks by 5.7% (for 2023 – but it varies by year).
The Railroad Employee Equity and Fairness (REEF) Act would repeal this unfair and unnecessary reduction that only targets the unemployment of railroad workers (regular State-based unemployment programs are already exempt).
That’s why we are calling on the U.S. House (HR 2785) and Senate (S.1274) to vote in support of the REEF Act that would permanently exempt RUI Benefits from budget sequestration reductions.
Tell Congress that rail workers support this legislation as do the railroads and rail retirees.
Let’s make the call and tell our Reps and Senators we want them to support the REEF Act.
